Football Express News understands that Barcelona have agreed a fee with Valencia for French defender Jeremy Mathieu.
The Catalan side are currently on the hunt for a central defender and have turned their attention to Mathieu since they missed out on Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Paris Saint Germain’s Marquinhos.
Heavily linked with the Frenchman in the past, Barca made a first bid earlier in July, but that was rejected by La Liga rivals Valencia.
However, the defender revealed his unhappiness at not being allowed to move clubs last week and it is now understood that a deal has been agreed between both clubs.
Mathieu is now expected to negotiate terms with Barcelona in the coming days after a reported £14m was agreed over the weekend.
He is expected to provide competition with Gerard Pique, Javier Mascherano and Marc Bartra under new boss Luis Enrique next season.
Valencia will now be on the hunt for a new defender after they also terminated the contract of Portuguese defender Ricardo Costa on Monday.
