Liverpool star Agger goes public with quit threat

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has admitted he might quit the club.

The Denmark international lifted the lid on the uncertainty surrounding his future on Merseyside during an interview in his homeland with newspaper BT.

Agger is unhappy at having slipped down the pecking order under boss Brendan Rodgers last term, losing his place in the side to Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho.

He said: “It is not a secret that I had problems last season and so I’m considering things.

“A situation such as that last year is not acceptable to me. For the moment, however, I’m here and I’ll show the manager that I am able to play.”

Barcelona have already rejected the opportunity to take the 29-year-old off Liverpool’s hands.

Mundo Deportivo claims the Catalan giants were keen on the towering centre-half for several years but, having finally being handed the opportunity to secure his services, they have decided to focus on other targets.

Despite seemingly becoming surplus to requirements at Anfield, Barca have instead set their sights on Valencia’s Jeremy Mathieu.

Barca are anxious to bolster the heart of their backline after missing out on the La Liga title on the last day of the season to Atletico Madrid following a 1-1 draw at the Nou Camp.

Agger has two years remaining on his lucrative contract at Liverpool, who are widely-expected to improve their defensive options after losing out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.
