West Ham chairman discusses Andy Carroll’s future

West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has poured cold water on the prospect of striker Andy Carroll leaving the club.

The England international’s status at Upton Park has been called into question in some quarters following the Hammers’ decision to pursue Pachuca hitman Enner Valencia for £12million.

They are awaiting news on Valencia’s work permit but if he does join the ranks it could see former Newcastle United talisman Carroll fall down the pecking order.

However, Gold took to social media site Twitter to play down talk of an exit for £15m man Carroll, who missed half of last season through injury.

He said: “I have no reason to believe that Andy Carroll is leaving.”

Meanwhile, Gold remains confident of landing Ecuador international Valencia before the end of the month, having submitted the work permit application.

He continued: “The process has started and we should hear within the next 10 days.”

Gold also revealed West Ham’s summer transfer window business will not necessarily end with the acquisition of Valencia.

The overhaul of Sam Allardyce’s squad is set to continue, with Gold telling his followers: “Probably loans or loans with a view to buy.”

Allardyce and the board of directors are in the process of reshaping the team after an inconsistent 2013-14 campaign which saw them flirt with relegation from the top flight yet reach the semi-finals of the League Cup.
