Liverpool face fresh fight for attacker

Shaqiri

Juventus have reportedly joined Roma and Liverpool in the race to sign Bayern Munich forward Xherdan Shaqiri.

Italian source TuttoSport claims new Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri has identified the Switzerland international as a key acquisition despite the fierce competition to secure his services.

Allegri took charge of the Turin giants last week, 24 hours after the shock departure of head coach Antonio Conte, who had steered them to three successive Scudetto titles.

Liverpool were viewed by many as the early frontrunners to land Shaqiri but Serie A heavyweights Roma last week jumped to the front of the queue, according to 4-4-2.com.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are said to be ready to part company with the 22-year-old, with Roma happy to meet their £15million valuation of the player.

Roma are looking to build on the momentum of last term, when they flirted with challenging for the title and pushed top dogs Juventus for large chunks of the campaign.

They secured Champions League football and have already snapped up former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole on a free transfer and beaten Juve to the signature of Hellas Verona star Juan Iturbe.

Liverpool will have a significant transfer budget to pursue different attack-minded targets if indeed they do miss out on Shaqiri.

When talisman Luis Suarez completes his switch to Barcelona for a fee in the region of £75m boss Brendan Rodgers will be able to splash the cash on several top-class players.
