Liverpool rival Man United for Argentine star

Angel Di Maria

Football Express News understands that Liverpool are ready to go toe-to-toe with Manchester United and battle for the signature of Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria.

The Argentine attacking midfielder is set to leave the European champions after falling out with a number of top club members due to his allegiance to compatriots Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano, who play for rivals Barcelona.

Di Maria heavily praised Messi during the World Cup and stated that the Barca man was the best footballer in the world, angering those at Madrid, who back Cristiano Ronaldo for the particular accolade.

Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain have both shown interest, although the latter have been relatively quiet in their interest in recent weeks.

United boss Louis van Gaal is keen to explore the asking price of the former Benfica man, but it is understood that he will be pushed by bitter rivals Liverpool, who also joined the hunt.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has a hefty sum of money at his disposal this summer and is keen to spend what he recouped by selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona on one World class player.

Di Maria fits that bill and it is understood that initial contact has been made late on Friday between the two clubs.
