Manchester United target Angel Di Maria has reportedly moved a step closer to leaving Real Madrid after being informed that he can leave the La Liga giants.

According to LeSport10, the European Cup holders have decided to sacrifice the Argentina international as they edge closer to landing Monaco’s James Rodriguez and prepare to present new signing Toni Kroos to the media.

Germany international Kroos, fresh from winning the World Cup in Brazil, joined from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich yesterday.

A source close to Old Trafford told Football Express News Di Maria is one of the club’s leading transfer targets and there is a growing belief that the 26-year-old wants to play under new head coach Louis van Gaal.

French source L’Equipe claims the winger has already informed his advisors to find him a club in England, despite being the subject of strong interest from cash-rich French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain.

This represents a huge boost to van Gaal, who is ready to step up the club’s transfer activity after completing his World Cup assignment with the Dutch national side and being unveiled at a press conference in Manchester.

Di Maria still has four years remaining on his contract in Spain but is ready for a fresh challenge after learning that he has slipped down the pecking order.

PSG have the financial muscle to win any bidding war and offer the highest salary, but the player is thought to have expressed concerns about the lack of a competitive edge at the top of Ligue 1.
