Following the acquisition of ex-Three Lions player Gareth Barry from Manchester City, Everton are looking to further-adorn their side with England internationals in the form of Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley.

As Everton head coach Roberto Martinez aims to strengthen his side ahead of the Toffees’ campaign to make the top four next season, Football Express News understands he is closely monitoring the situation with the United and England midfielder.

Cleverley was not heavily in favour at United last season under then-boss David Moyes, having made the starting 11 just 18 times out of 38 Premier League fixtures and featuring in 22 league games in total.

There is a danger that the 24-year-old will be axed from the United squad on the instructions new manager, Dutchman Louis van Gaal, who arrived in Manchester yesterday to start his new job.

Cleverley, who has a year left to run on his United contract, will hold discussions with the powers-that-be at Old Trafford over the coming weeks in order to determine his immediate future.

But, with Everton having registered their interest in Cleverley and the player having been somewhat mis-placed in Manchester, it is quite possible he will look to move on and envision his future in Merseyside.
