Reports in Spain claim that La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are in negotiations with Sevilla to sign Alberto Moreno, despite Liverpool’s best efforts.
Spanish daily AS claim that Diego Simeone’s side have offered £14m plus Brazilian striker Leo Baptistao for the young Spanish defender, trumping any bid made by Liverpool.
Officials from Liverpool are due to arrive in the Spanish city on Thursday to further discuss a potential move but the inclusion of Baptistao is said to have put Atletico in pole position for Moreno’s signature.
Simeone is keen to add Moreno as he wants to replace Filipe Luis, who left the club earlier this week to join Chelsea, following the footsteps of Diego Costa, who also moved to Stamford Bridge.
Moreno played an important part in Sevilla’s Europa League success last season and was unfortunate not to go with the Spanish national side to the World Cup this summer in Brazil.
