Liverpool make initial contact with English defender

Richards

Football Express News understands that Liverpool have made initial contact with Manchester City’s Micah Richards about a summer move.

The English defender made his senior debut for Man City back in 2005 after impressing at youth level for England and he immediately announced himself on the big scene with some steady performances.

A regular in the starting line-up with City through 2008-2010, Richards gained 13 caps for the senior England national side but his career has since taken a huge step backwards.

Just 18 appearances for City in two seasons has seen the Birmingham born defender drop down the pecking order and it he even missed out on a Premier League winners medal last season due to his minimal games for the club.

That has led a number of Premier League rivals to show interest with Liverpool leading the list of potential candidates.

And, it is understood that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has made initial contact with City over exactly how much the 26-year-old would cost.

Prior to this summer, interested clubs had been warned off making a move by City, who had set a huge asking price, but with his chances of playing under boss Manuel Pellegrini limited, it is likely that he could leave for a lot less than first asked.
