Juventus ready for Premier League raid

Manchester City v Sunderland - Premier League

New Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has asked his employers to pursue Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic, according to reports in the Italian media.

La Gazetta dello Sport claims a bid could be slapped on the table in the coming days as the Serie A champions embark on a summer spending spree.

Allegri was swiftly appointed as the new man in charge less than 24 hours after the sudden and unexpected departure of head coach Antonio Conte.

The 44-year-old, who guided the Turin giants to three successive domestic titles, quit one day after the start of pre-season training and just hours after holding urgent talks with the hierarchy.

It is thought that the discussions with directors centred around the potential departure of midfielder Arturo Vidal to Manchester United – a deal which the Italians refused to rule out during Allegri’s first press conference.

Blues striker Jovetic is no stranger to Serie A, having been a key man at Fiorentina prior to last year’s £22million switch to the Etihad Stadium.

His first season in England was blighted by injuries but the Premier League champions are said to be reluctant to farm him out on loan.

They are happy to keep the player, but could be tempted by an outright sale if the offer is lucrative enough.

He has reported back for pre-season training without any sign of injury and played in the 2-0 defeat to Dundee at the weekend.
