BREAKING: Arsenal sign Mathieu Debuchy

Debuchy

Football Express News understands that Arsenal have completed the signing of Newcastle United defender Mathieu Debuchy.

The French full-back arrived in North London last week to complete a medical at Arsenal ahead of a summer move and it is now understood that all the details have been completed, with the Gunners set to announce the news on their official website on Thursday.

The 28-year-old had a superb season for Newcastle United last year and had emerged as a target for Arsenal following doubts over Bacary Sagna’s future, with the Frenchman eventually deciding to join Premier League rivals Manchester City.

Initial reports outlining the agreement for the player stated that a fee of £8M had previously been agreed with Newcastle, but the actual figure to be released stands at £10M.

Frenchman Debuchy will be brought into the side as a direct replacement for Sagna to form part of the Arsenal back four along with centre-back duo Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

Debuchy’s move to Arsenal comes just a 18 months after he signed to Newcastle from French Ligue 1 side Lille. He featured in 29 of Newcastle’s Premier League fixtures last season and his move to Arsenal will see him feature in the Gunners’ quest for European success via the Champions League next season.
