Casillas free to leave Madrid next summer

Iker-Casillas

Spanish daily AS have reported that Iker Casillas has an agreement with Florentino Perez that will allow him to leave Real Madrid next summer.

Spain’s number one has seen his starting place at Madrid slowly vanish in recent seasons with Antonio Adan and Diego Lopez both preferred by coaches Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, respectively.

Casillas featured in just Copa del Rey and Champions League matches last season but did play an important part in the Spanish capital side winning both, beating Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the finals.

However, with Madrid closing in a summer move for Levante and Costa Rica keeper Keylor Navas, it has now emerged that his could be Casillas’ final season at the Santiago Bernabeu.

AS claim that the keeper has an agreement with club president Florentino Perez which would allow him to leave the club next summer on a free transfer.

Casillas will be 34 at that point but links have already been made between him and the MLS, with some reports claiming that he could follow David Villa and Xavi Hernandez to the newly formed New York City FC.
