United slap £11.8m price tag on winger

Nani

Manchester United are reportedly demanding £11.8million for winger Nani as talks with AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani reach an advanced stage.

According to Italian source Tutto Mercato Web, the Serie A outfit are reluctant to pay more than £7.8m for the Portugal international, who hardly figured in the Red Devils’ torrid 2013-14 campaign.

Galliani remains in a regular dialogue with his United counterparts and is said to be cautiously optimistic of securing Nani’s services, having set his sights on a compromise deal which could include add-ons based on appearances.

The San Siro giants’ hierarchy have promised new head coach Filippo Inzaghi significant investment in the squad in an attempt to bounce back from last term, when they finished eighth in the table and failed to win a piece of silverware.

And with new United head coach Louis van Gaal likely to strengthen before the end of the summer transfer window, Nani is seemingly edging closer to the exit door after seven years at the club.

He could be tempted by a new challenge overseas, despite having four years left on his contract.

He made only 13 appearances for his team last season after falling out of favour with then-manager David Moyes prior to suffering several muscle problems which kept him sidelined for the majority of the season.
