Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has discussed the situation regarding Alex Song and said that the former Arsenal man could still remain at the club this summer.

Song joined Barcelona in 2012 from Arsenal but his time with the Catalan club has seen him make limited appearances, battling with the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets for a starting place.

Just 19 appearances for Barca in the league last season had seen the Cameroon international deemed surplus to requirements with new boss Luis Enrique keen to offload the midfielder in a summer sale which has already seen the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez leave the Camp Nou.

Italian duo AC Milan and Inter Milan have both been credited with interest in the past, whilst former club Arsenal had been linked, but it is understood that the club has received no offers this summer.

However, sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has given a different opinion after receiving no offers for the midfielder.

“Song could leave? Alex has a contract. If we receive a bid, we’ll look into it, but we’re not going to discuss….” he told reporters during a press conference on Wednesday morning.
