Barcelona’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has refused to comment on the ban that will keep new signing Luis Suarez out until early November.
Uruguayan striker Suarez arrived in the Catalan capital earlier this week to finalise his move to Barcelona, but restrictions from football’s governing body FIFA saw Barca have to cancel their presentation of the player.
Whilst, Suarez is not allowed to train or play football for his new club until late October/early November after being found guilty of biting the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup in Brazil.
Some media reports have since claimed that the Catalan giants remain confident that the ban will either be dropped or reduced, but sporting director Zubizarreta refused to comment on any such claims or indeed – the incident itself.
“Luis Suarez ban? Our lawyers told us that we have to be extremely careful with what we say,” he told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, the former keeper also discussed several transfer targets and in particular, a central defender.
“If we’d have wanted, we’d already have sined a centre back, but we want someone who improves what we have.”
