Ex-United man: Khedira can win title for Arsenal

Arsenal will be Premier League title challengers if they complete the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, according to ex-Manchester United midfielder Robbie Savage.

The ex-Wales international, who started his career at Old Trafford before making a name for himself with the likes of Leicester City, Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers, has been impressed by the Gunners’ transfer activity so far this summer.

They have already snapped up Chile attacker Sanchez from Barcelona in a deal worth in excess of £30million, and Catalan publication Sport claims they have now agreed a £23m fee with La Liga giants Real for Khedira.

Savage thinks Arsene Wenger’s men will go toe-to-toe with champions Manchester City and Chelsea if they buy the 27-year-old.

He said on Twitter: “If Arsenal get Khedira, with Sanchez added already they are real contenders along with City and Chelsea.”

Germany international Khedira has less than 12 months remaining on his Bernabeu deal, with little sign of an extension in sight.

Arsenal officials will now begin the process of negotiating personal terms with the engine room star and his representatives.

It is thought that he will demand somewhere in the region of £150,000 per week.

If he completes the switch he will link up with international team-mates Lukas Podolski, Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Serge Gnabry in Wenger’s squad.
