Juventus ready to appoint Conte’s successor

Allegri

Former AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri is reportedly the frontrunner to take the helm at Juventus following Antonio Conte’s resignation.

The Turin giants are reeling from the surprise departure of a man who guided them to three successive Serie A titles but are anxious to appoint his successor as quickly as possible, with pre-season training now under way.

Italian source La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Allegri has edged ahead of former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini in the race to land the iconic role at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

He is said to be meeting with Juve officials later today for a final interview, following discussions with representatives from both parties.

Should he get the nod, Allegri will feel he has a point to prove after his unceremonious exit from the San Siro at the start of the year.

He was sacked by Milan in January and replaced by club stalwart Clarence Seedorf, who was also given his marching orders four months later.

Ex-Italy striker Filippo Inzaghi took over from the Dutchman this summer.

One of the new manager’s first jobs will be to discover the future of star midfielder Arturo Vidal. Old Trafford sources have told Football Express News he is edging closer to a switch to Manchester United, although they are aware of interest from rivals Liverpool.
