Besiktas close in on Ba deal

Demba-Ba

Besiktas are close to signing Chelsea striker Demba Ba after agreeing an £8m deal, Football Express News understands.

The Senegalese striker is widely-expected to depart west London this summer after seeing boss Jose Mourinho snap up £32m hitman Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid to spark an overhaul of his strikeforce.

The Turkish giants had originally planned to make a move for striker Bryan Ruiz after watching the Costa Rica international perform well for his country in the World Cup, but it is now understood that they have turned their attention to Ba.

Ba was Chelsea’s third-choice striker last term and many of his 29 appearances came from the substitutes’ bench. He picked up form at the end of the season, scoring vital goals against Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

The iconic strike at Anfield saw him capitalise on a slip by Reds skipper Steven Gerrard and is widely-credited with turning the Premier League title race on its head, with Manchester City beating the Merseyside heavyweights to top spot weeks later.

The ex-West Ham United man arrived at Stamford Bridge from Newcastle United for £7 million on January 2013.
