Manchester United have tonight edged closer to the signature of Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal following the resignation of head coach Antonio Conte, Football Express News can reveal.
A source close to Old Trafford told FEN there is a growing belief in the corridors of power that they will land the Chile international in light of the Italian’s exit, which comes just one day after the start of pre-season.
This morning Conte entered into crisis talks with the board and asked directors for answers amid speculation that they were preparing to sell Vidal to United.
Serie A champions Juve are believed to have resigned themselves to the fact that the Premier League side’s £750million sponsorship deal with German giants Adidas puts them in the driving seat to buy the player.
He is yet to rule out a switch to England, adding fuel to the fire in the eyes of Conte who also grew tired of waiting for Juve to sign Hellas Verona hitman Juan Iturbe.
Conte told the club’s website: “I have decided to terminate my contract with Juventus.
“I have matured with time and my feelings led me to make this choice. It may be more difficult to keep winning with Juventus.
“An enormous thank you for what you have given to me as a player and as a coach. I have always been close to you. I want to say that the journey taken in recent years has been historic.”
