Monaco want Griezmann to replace Rodriguez

Monaco have set their sights on Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann to replace World Cup star James Rodriguez, who is set for a move to his dream club – Real Madrid – this summer.

According to Spanish paper AS, Monaco are favourites to sign the Frenchman after he rejected a new contract offer from his current club Real Sociedad last month.

The former Paris Saint-Germain youngster has been strongly linked to a number of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea.

But, with reports earlier this week claiming that Colombia star James Rodriguez has agreed personal terms with Spanish giants Real Madrid, the Ligue 1 side are ready to beat any potential suitors to Griezmann.

Griezmann featured five times for France in the World Cup and gained plaudits from Monaco’s billionaire owner Dmitry Rybolovlev, who has informed his board members to make an initial bid for the Sociedad man.

The 23-year-old has a current buy-out clause at Sociedad of around £28m which would prove little problem for free-spending Monaco.
