Ex-United captain tipped to be Serie A ‘Braveheart’

Vidic stankovic

Former Inter Milan star Dejan Stankovic has acclaimed his old Serbia international team-mate Nemanja Vidic as one of the world’s most fearless defenders.

Vidic is gearing up for his first season in Serie A with the San Siro giants, having left Old Trafford on a free transfer this summer following eight trophy-laden years.

He made up half of the Red Devils’ solid defensive backbone alongside Rio Ferdinand, who has also departed.

The Serbian penned a three-year deal with Inter and his friend Stankovic told the Italian media to expect big things from the 32-year-old.

“For two years he was the best defender in the world, and he is still among the best,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“What you will discover is the man I knew for 10 years together in the national team, a serious person, a great professional, a leader.

“Have you seen ‘Braveheart’? I do not know how many times I said ‘Nema, think about your health’, and how many times he split open his forehead or nose because he always throws it in, without thinking about it.”
