United boss van Gaal alerted to cut-price Sneijder deal

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been given the opportunity to move for compatriot Wesley Sneijder, Football Express News understands.

Turkish giants Galatasaray have dropped their asking price for the Netherlands midfielder in a bid to shift him swiftly off their payroll prior to the start of next season.

President Unal Aysal had previously urged potential suitors to meet the club’s £16million release clause in order to seal a deal for the 30-year-old but this has since been retracted, according to reports in French media Mercato 365 this morning.

New Red Devils boss van Gaal – who was Holland head coach during the World Cup – reportedly spoke to Sneijder during the tournament about the possibility of the pair working together at the 20-times Premier League champions.

The two men ended the competition on a positive note courtesy of a 3-0 victory over host nation Brazil in the third-place play-off.

With Galatasaray looking for a quick sale and United’s spending spree far from over, Sneijder could join fellow countrymen van Gaal and Robin van Persie at Old Trafford in the coming weeks if his mentor decides the new asking price is value for money.

Midfield man Ander Herrera and left-back Luke Shaw have already arrived this summer from Athletic Bilbao and Southampton respectively, with more fresh faces widely-expected to follow.
