United and Monaco fight for Serie A star

Cerci

Monaco have entered the race to sign Manchester United target Alessio Cerci from Torino, according to fresh reports in the Italian media.

The cash-rich Ligue 1 outfit have expressed a firm interest in luring the attacker away from Serie A, claims Tutto Mercato Web.

A number of suitors are chasing the Italy international, with the Red Devils joined by San Siro rivals AC and Inter Milan in the queue to secure his signature.

A source close to Old Trafford told Football Express News the coveted 26-year-old is one of several attack-minded targets on their wishlist and they could yet firm up their interest with a bid.

Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has already given head coach Filippo Inzaghi assurances that he will bid for Cerci this summer.

Milan hope to engineer a player-plus-cash deal which will see one of their fringe players move in the opposite direction along with a fee of around £15million.

However, Berlusconi will not pursue the matter until he has found a buyer for outcasts Robinho, Alessandro Matri and M’Baye Niang.

Cerci, who can operate out wide on both flanks or through the middle as a supporting striker, scored 13 goals in 37 appearances for his club last term.

He has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract.
