Liverpool target given extra day to decide on move

Astori

Lazio have reportedly given Liverpool target Davide Astori an extra day to decide on his future, having originally set a midweek deadline.

According to Corriere della Sera, tomorrow’s cut-off point has been revised and the Cagliari centre-half now has until Thursday to make up his mind about a switch to the Italian capital.

A meeting has been scheduled to take place in little more than 48 hours’ time, by which point Lazio will demand a final answer, having bid around £5million and offered personal terms several weeks ago.

If they do not receive a firm ‘yes’ from Astori and his representatives, they will pull the plug and leave Liverpool in a strong position to step in.

A source close to Anfield told Football Express News that the Reds continue to monitor the situation and could still capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding the Italy international.

The insider revealed the Merseyside giants had switched their focus to other defensive-minded targets because the 27-year-old looked likely to remain in his homeland by moving to Rome to join Lazio.

However, the Serie A side will themselves pursue other options if their four-year offer is rejected.

Cagliari also want to tempt him with a fresh contract extension as he has less than 12 months remaining on his current arrangement, but he is widely-expected to find a new club during the summer transfer window.

The short length of time left on his existing deal means he is available for a relatively modest fee.
