Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson has backed new signing Alexis Sanchez to shine for this Gunners next season and hailed the forward a ‘world-class’ player.
Chile international star Sanchez joined Arsene Wenger’s side from Barcelona for £32M last week which marked Arsenal’s second most pricey transfer deal in history behind midfielder Mesut Ozil, who the club signed last year from Real Madrid for a whopping £42.5M.
Jenkinson, who plays at centre-back, has welcomed the arrival of Sanchez and spoken out on the club’s excitement over their highly-rated newcomer.
On the club’s official website, he said: “He is a fantastic player, everyone at the club is buzzing about it. It is a similar feeling to when Mesut Ozil signed last year.”
“He is world class and they’re the sort of players you want to see at the club. If you’re going to push on as a club and really compete for things, you need to sign top players.
“We have done that with him for sure, it is a fantastic addition. Everyone is over the moon that we have signed someone of that calibre.”
The Arsenal defender described the 25-year-old Chilean as quick, versatile and very much an Arsenal-type player.
“He’s quick and direct, he can play up front and on the wing, and he is very dynamic. He will definitely fit the Arsenal style of play, and he is very similar to Theo in the sense that he is very quick and tricky.
“If you’re world class then you fit into any side and he’s definitely in that category.”
