Arsenal agree £23m fee for Real star Khedira

Arsenal have reportedly won the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira in a £23million deal.

According to Catalan publication Sport, the Gunners have seen off interest from a number of European heavyweights to snap up the contract rebel, who has less than 12 months remaining on his Bernabeu deal.

The two clubs have settled on the fee and the north London outfit will now begin the process of negotiating personal terms with the Germany international and his representatives.

It is thought that the 27-year-old will demand somewhere in the region of £150,000 per week.

If he completes the switch he will link up with international team-mates Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and Serge Gnabry.

The report claims Arsenal will cool their interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender if they land Khedira.

He made only 18 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the 2013-14 campaign but played a key role in Germany’s run to the World Cup final, which they won 1-0 against Argentina last night.

Khedira sat out the contest after sustaining an injury in the pre-match warm-up but has received widespread credit for the performances he produced in the earlier rounds at the heart of the engine room.
