Reina refuses to rule out Reds revival

Liverpool outcast Pepe Reina has not ruled out the possibility of staying at the club and fighting for his place.

The Spain international was farmed out on loan to Serie A outfit Napoli last season after Reds boss Brendan Rodgers decided to trim the wage bill and replace him with Simon Mignolet, who arrived from Sunderland.

Reina faces an uphill struggle to win back the number one jersey from his Belgian counterpart and is widely-expected to depart Merseyside during the summer transfer window.

However, the 31-year-old, who has two years remaining on his contract, told Primer Toque he could extend his stay at Anfield.

He said: “If I had to stay with the Reds and fight for a starting spot I would do it and I’d be happy in that city and that team.

“Definitely my future will be decided after the World Cup.”

While fighting for a starting spot under Rodgers is an option, Reina also refused to rule out a return to his homeland or a second stint in Naples.

He added: “I was fine in the nine years away from Spain, but to go back now would be an option.

“It is possible I will stay at Napoli. In that city I was fine and the project is important. There has to be an agreement between the clubs.”
