Reds boss Rodgers faces fight for Porto striker

Martinez

AC Milan have reportedly joined the race to lure Liverpool target Jackson Martinez away from Portugese giants Porto.

Italian source Leggo claims the San Siro giants have made the Colombia hitman a priority target for the summer transfer window but they must sell first in order to fund a bid.

A source close to Anfield told Football Express News Reds boss Brendan Rodgers intends to add another striker to the squad before the 2014-15 campaign gets started, in light of the fact that they are selling talisman Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

The insider revealed Martinez is one of several attack-minded targets being considered.

Milan’s inability to make a bid straight away has given Liverpool hope of remaining at the front of the queue, and the player himself refused to rule out a switch in last week’s interview with Radio FM.

Martinez said: “I do not know what will happen, I have a contract for two more years with Porto and I know there is interest from some clubs.

“It is normal if a player is playing well, but I have always respected my contracts. Only time will tell what will happen.”

The exciting forward plundered 23 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for Porto last term.

He also bagged a brace in the World Cup group stage clash with Japan in June.
