Liverpool target given 48 hours to decide future

Lazio will reportedly pull the plug on a move for Liverpool target Davide Astori if the Cagliari defender does not sign for them by Wednesday.

Il Corriere della Sera claims the towering centre-half and his representatives have been told to make a decision on his future or they will turn their attention to other targets in midweek.

A source close to Anfield told Football Express News that Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the situation and could look to capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding the Italy international.

The insider revealed the Reds has all but given up hope of luring Astori to Merseyside because the 27-year-old was given the opportunity to remain in his homeland by moving to the capital to join Lazio.

His suitors have, however, grown tired of waiting for an answer, not least because they agreed terms with his agent last month in a four-year deal.

Cagliari also want to tempt him with a fresh contract extension as he has less than 12 months remaining on his current arrangement, but he is widely-expected to find a new club during the summer transfer window.

The short length of time left on his existing deal means he is available for a fee of around £4.5million.
