Mourinho hails Chelsea target ‘best young player of the World Cup’

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has praised France international Paul Pogba for his solid displays of form in the World Cup, hailing the midfielder as the ‘best young player of the tournament.’

It would not be imprudent to assume that Chelsea’s hot-headed Portuguese chief Mourinho may have the intentions of courting the young French playmaker, who happens to be amidst strong speculation of a move to the west London club.

Mourinho was asked to give his views on which young players have stood out in the World Cup competition this summer, and speaking on behalf of Yahoo as their Global Football Ambassador, he explained why he puts France’s Pogba at the top of his list:

“I would say Pogba, because he had a good World Cup, in spite of the fact his team didn’t reach the last four.

“I think he showed he showed that he will be a big player for the next World Cup, for sure.”

The 21-year-old who currently plays for Italian Serie A side Juventus, assisted the France national team in reaching the quarter-finals when he found the back of the net against Nigeria and sealed the 2-0 victory that carried Didier Deschamp’s Frenchmen through to the final eight.

France suffered a quarter-final defeat to Joachim Loew’s mighty Germany, who are set to take centre-stage tonight in the ultimate showdown of the tournament – the World Cup final against Alejandro Sabella’s Argentina.
