Chelsea hitman issues World Cup final rallying cry

Schurrle

Cheslea forward Andre Schurrle has declared he and his Germany team-mates are ready for one last push ahead of tonight’s World Cup final against Argentina.

The eagerly-anticipated clash is a repeat of the Italia ’90 showdown, which the European side edged 1-0, and Argentina are gunning for revenge after a 24-year wait.

Schurrle has been in fine form for Joachim Low’s side throughout the tournament in Brazil, and has three goals to his name.

He took to social media site Twitter to deliver an upbeat message to his followers, saying: “We are ready to do the last step!!! Let’s go Germany!!!! #final.”

Versatile attacker Schurrle, who can operate out wide on the flanks or through the centre, as he demonstrated on a number of occasions at club level last term, has been given 156 minutes of playing time in the competition.

He has averaged a goal every 52 minutes and is pushing for a starting berth tonight, although he has proved to be an effective substitute.

The 23-year-old struck twice in the stunning 7-1 semi-final triumph at the expense of host nation Brazil on Tuesday, scoring a second-half brace to compound the misery of Luiz Felipe Scolari’s team.

Germany have enjoyed an extra day of rest compared to tonight’s opponents, who won their last-four clash with Holland on penalties 24 hours later.
