United target close to Real Madrid switch

Kroos

Manchester United target Toni Kroos is reportedly close to completing a move from Bayern Munich to La Liga giants Real Madrid.

According to As, the European Cup holders are set to pull off a double swoop for the Germany international and Monaco playmaker James Rodriguez, who lit up the World Cup with Colombia.

While Real will have to part with a hefty transfer fee to secure the services of Rodriguez, Kroos is going to cost significantly less due to the fact that he has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract at the Allianz Arena.

Negotiations over a fresh deal with the Bavarian heavyweights have broken down, paving the way for his departure in the summer transfer window.

The Bundesliga club does not want to lose a player of his calibre for nothing a year down the line and is seemingly resigned to seeing him head for the exit door in the coming weeks.

A source close to Old Trafford told Football Express News that the Red Devils have been monitoring the situation closely, but they started to assess other targets when Holland head coach Louis van Gaal was confirmed as their new manager.

Midfield man Ander Herrera arrived from Athletic Bilbao last month.
