Liverpool demand £2.3m for Spaniard

Reina

Liverpool have reportedly told their former manager Rafael Benitez he can take goalkeeper Pepe Reina back to Napoli for £2.3million.

The 31-year-old spent last season on loan at the Serie A club, where he was reunited with his compatriot and former Reds boss.

Benitez wants to land Reina for a second time but club directors are holding out for another loan deal, while Liverpool are insisting they will only consider an outright sale.

Talks dragged on for several weeks before reaching a deadlock but Italian source TuttoSport claims the Merseyside giants have now named their price in an attempt to push through the move and get him off their wage bill.

He has two years left on a lucrative contract with little chance of playing under head coach Brendan Rodgers, who replaced him with Belgium international Simon Mignolet 12 months ago.

The latest report reveals that Reina is their only target in the goalkeeper department and if they miss out, they will turn to current shot-stopper Rafael.

He is on the comeback trail from injury and is expected to be fit in time for the start of the 2014-15 campaign.

Benitez still hopes to secure a double swoop for Reina and his team-mate Lucas Leiva, who is thought to have agreed personal terms with Napoli.
