Ex-Liverpool star Owen speaks out on Suarez sale

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen claims Barcelona-bound striker Luis Suarez is a loss for the Premier League, and not just for the Reds.

The Merseyside giants have confirmed that their talisman will leave the club imminently after they agreed a deal with the La Liga heavyweights.

He will undergo a medical before putting pen to paper on a lucrative contract, which is believed to be five years in length.

Owen, who started his career at Anfield and established himself as one of the hottest properties in world football before leaving for Real Madrid in 2004, could not hide his disappointment at the 27-year-old’s departure.

Writing in his personal blog on Sportlobster, he said: “Gutted Suarez has left and we won’t see his football skills grace our Premier League next season.”

Suarez will not be able to play for his new club straight away, as he is currently serving a four-month ban from all football activities, which was imposed by world governing body Fifa.

The punishment was handed out in the aftermath of the forward’s bite on Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini when he was on World Cup duty with Uruguay.

Officials did not spot the illegal act but television footage was viewed by a Fifa panel and he was subsequently suspended.
