Jason Roberts: Good riddance Suarez, I will support Real

Outspoken ex-footballer Jason Roberts has slammed outgoing Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and welcomed his exit from England after the Reds agreed to sell him to Barcelona.

Former Reading and Blackburn Rovers hitman Roberts, who has criticised the Kick It Out campaign’s lack of progress in fighting racism, has pledged allegiance to Barca’s bitter rivals Real Madrid in the wake of the deal being agreed.

A string of misdemeanors soured his time at Anfield, including an eight-game ban for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra and biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic.

The forward is currently banned from all football activity for four months by Fifa after another bite, this time on Italy centre-half Giorgio Chiellini whilst on World Cup duty with Uruguay.

Roberts, a newly-appointed member of a BBC diversity panel, said on Twitter: “So..Suarez leaves Liverpool for Barcelona..good riddance and don’t let the door hit you on the way out of our league.

“Sorry Romario, Ronaldo and (Lionel) Messi..but I will now be switching my allegiances to Real Madrid with immediate effect..Barca shirt in the bin.”

Controversial attacker Suarez is widely-expected to complete the mega-money switch to Barca next week once he has successfully passed a medical at the Nou Camp.
