Germans make bold approach for Lukaku

The ongoing transfer saga of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is far from complete, with German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg having reportedly jumped in on the never-ending yet somewhat leisurely race to sign the 21-year-old.

Having spent the 2013/2014 proving he is a quality attacking player at his on-loan club Everton, the Belgian scored 16 goals in 33 fixtures, provided eight assists and was a key part of Roberto Martinez’s side’s fifth place Premier League finish.

With parent club Chelsea stalling over their option to bring Lukaku back into the fold, Everton appearing to be getting nowhere, Tottenham also said to be keen but nothing materialised as yet, the player is still very much up for grabs.

As such, German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg clearly feel they have nothing to lose by trying their luck.

Lukaku is rated at around £22M but Chelsea have named their desired price at £32 for the Belgian. This initially caused Wolfsburg to shy away, but reports emerged from Germany today stating that Wolfsburg have made their bold approach to the west London giants to enter discussions of a permanent deal.

A move to the German outfit is not expected to be high on the young Belgian’s agenda however, seeing as he has previously said his wish is to play Champions League football.

Considering Wolfsburg finished last season fifth in the Bundesliga, missing out on a top four finish to Bayer Leverkusen by just a point, if Lukaku joined the side he would not get his chance to play in the most prestigious European tournament next season.

Then again he would not play Champions League football if he rejoined Everton or signed for Tottenham, either.
