Dalglish: Liverpool captain is better than Suarez

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard still eclipses outgoing Reds talisman Luis Suarez, according to the son of Kop idol Kenny Dalglish.

Controversial striker Suarez is leaving Anfield to sign for La Liga heavyweights Barcelona, with the Merseyside giants confirming in a statement today that a deal has been agreed.

The consistently superb form produced by the 27-year-old over the last three seasons led to some fans declaring him the best player to ever don the famous red shirt.

Others still think Dalglish is number one, with veteran Gerrard also mentioned in the same breath.

Despite being sad to see Suarez go, Paul Dalglish revealed the England captain has gone up even further in his estimation following the news of the Uruguayan’s departure.

He said on Twitter: “When I see players come and go it makes Steven Gerrard even more of a legend. Passion, loyalty, pride, talent. Our captain.

“In Luis Suarez brief spell he was the best player of my generation but Steven Gerrard’s longevity without a doubt makes him the greatest.”

Suarez will not be able to feature for his new club straight away as he is banned from all football activity for four months by Fifa.

The punishment was dished out after the forward bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini whilst on World Cup duty with Uruguay.
