Ex-Liverpool star: Reds better off without Suarez

Hamann

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has praised his old club’s decision to sell talisman Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

The Reds ended a week of intense speculation by releasing a statement which confirmed that the Uruguay international will leave Anfield imminently to join the Catalan giants.

Striker Suarez has split opinion among supporters debating whether the Premier League runners-up should keep him in light of his four-month ban from all football activity by Fifa.

The suspension was handed out following his bite on Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini whilst on World Cup duty with Uruguay.

Hamann said on Twitter: “Glad the Suarez saga is over. Not surprised how it ended.

“The club will be better off without him.”

Liverpool must now turn their attention to finding a replacement for the man who led their title challenge last term.

The club statement read: “Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona.

“The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities, which will then conclude the transfer.

“We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield.

“Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future.”
