Former Liverpool boss ‘sad to lose genius Suarez’

Former Liverpool manager Roy Evans has revealed that he is saddened by his old club’s confirmation that talisman Luis Suarez is leaving Anfield.

The Uruguay international will join La Liga giants Barcelona, with the Reds finally breaking their silence to announce his impending departure.

He is currently suspended by Fifa from taking part in any football activity for the next four months, but when the suspension ends he can form a potentially clinical partnership with Barca forward Lionel Messi.

Evans, who was at the Liverpool helm between 1994 and 1998, said on Twitter: “Sad to see Suarez go.

“A genius on the football pitch a privilege to watch and for me will always be a Liverpool great. I wish him well.”

Liverpool must now find a suitable replacement for their star man, who received his ban for biting Italy’s Giorgi Chiellini whilst on World Cup duty with Uruguay.

The Merseyside giants ended a week of uncertainty by stating: “Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona.

“The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities, which will then conclude the transfer.

“We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield.

“Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future.”
