BREAKING: Liverpool confirm Suarez will join Barcelona

Liverpool have confirmed that talisman Luis Suarez is to leave the club for Catalan giants Barcelona.

The Merseyside outfit have ended days of speculation and silence by issuing a statement on their official website announcing that the 27-year-old is on his way out of Anfield.

His position at the club came under intense scrutiny following his bite on Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini whilst in action for Uruguay in last month’s World Cup group stage clash.

It went unpunished on the pitch but Fifa has since banned him from all football activity for four months.

The statement from Liverpool read: “Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona.

“The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities, which will then conclude the transfer.

“We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield.

“Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future.”

Once Suarez’s ban comes to an end, Barca fans can look forward to the exciting prospect of Suarez linking up with main man Lionel Messi up front for Luis Enrique’s side, who will look to improve on last season’s trophy-less efforts.
