Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has revealed he is excited about seeing new signing Alexis Sanchez make his bow for the Gunners this summer.

The Chile international completed his £30million switch from Barcelona last night, to the delight of the north London outfit’s all-time leading goalscorer.

New York Red Bulls veteran Henry believes the high-profile acquisition gives Arsene Wenger’s men a major lift in their attempts to challenge for top honours in the 2014-15 campaign.

They ended their nine-year wait for a piece of silverware by winning the FA Cup in May courtesy of a nail-biting 3-2 victory over Hull City at Wembley, where Wenger’s side had to come from 2-0 down.

Henry said on Twitter: “Congratulations @Arsenal for the signing of #alexissanchez. Looking forward to seeing him play soon.”

The Frenchman’s compatriot and former team-mate for club and country, Robert Pires, echoed his sentiments and praised the club for securing his signature.

Sanchez had been the subject of strong interest from Juventus and Liverpool, but London was his preferred destination.

Pires said: “Congratulations @Arsenal for the signing of #AlexisSanchez .”

Sanchez is likely to make his debut for his new team in a pre-season friendly later on in the summer.

He was one of Chile’s stand-out performers in the World Cup, netting a memorable goal against host nation Brazil in the second round only to experience the bitter taste of a penalty shoot-out defeat.
