United expecting bid for winger

Nani

AC Milan head coach Filippo Inzaghi’s proposed transformation of his under-performing squad has inspired a move for Manchester United winger Nani, Football Express News understands.

A source close to Old Trafford told FEN the San Siro giants have expressed an interest in the Portugal international, who has become a peripheral figure at the Premier League club, and a bid could land on their table as early as tomorrow.

Club president Silvio Berlusconi has held three meetings with the head coach in recent weeks and will arrive in Milan today to begin the process of making offers for key summer transfer window targets.

While the Italians are keen to bag him on loan with a view to a permanent move in 12 months’ time, the Red Devils would prefer to cash in now by negotiating an up-front transfer fee.

Milan finished the 2013-14 campaign in eighth position in the Serie A table, and failed to win a solitary piece of silverware.

They did not make an impression in the Champions League, crashing out in the first knock-out stage, and also sacked two head coaches, with Massimiliano Allegri and Clarence Seedorf both given their marching orders.

Inzaghi took the helm last month and is ready to embark on an overhaul as well as introducing a 4-3-3 formation, in which Nani would be expected to thrive.
