Juventus battle Barcelona for Cuadrado

Cuadrado

Juventus will reportedly make an 11th hour attempt to halt Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado’s move to Barcelona.

TuttoSport claims the Serie A champions are ready to firm up their long-standing interest by rivalling the La Liga giants’ £23.8million offer, which was revealed by Catalan publication Sport.

Head coach Antonio Conte, who oversaw his side’s successful defence of their domestic title last term, hopes to convince the Colombia international to remain in Italy and lead Juve’s assault on the Champions League.

Their best hope of doing so is to dwarf Barca’s bid with a bigger fee, as the Viola are holding out for closer to £33m for one of their star performers.

Cuadrado, who is said to have set his heart on what he views as a dream switch to the Nou Camp, plundered 13 goals in 38 appearances for his club last season, receiving 12 yellow cards and one red in the process.

His rise to prominence continued courtesy of a number of impressive displays for his national side in this summer’s World Cup, which has seen his value rise significantly.

He helped them reach the quarter-finals of the competition, at which point they suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of host nation Brazil.
