Former Arsenal midfielder Nicklas Bendtner is set to join a new club any day now and Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt have upped their game in their quest to sign the Dane, according to German media.

Bendtner, 26, who plays for the Denmark national team, is a free agent on the expiry of his contract with Arsenal this summer.

With a number of clubs having lodged their interest and midlands-based Aston Villa reported to be leading the race, the player is very much flavor of the month with German side Eintracht Frankfurt, with their general manager Bruno Hubner making no secret of the fact the club are hot on his case.

He told Hessischer Rundfunk: “We already had good rounds of talk with Nicklas Bendtner last season.

“His name is in our head and he can well imagine doing a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt as far as I am concerned.

“There is no deal and nothing concrete,” he added, “still Nicklas Bendtner is definitely a transfer option.”

The ex-Arsenal favourite, who spent nine years with the Gunners under manager Arsene Wenger, is said to be on the verge of striking a deal with Aston Villa and has previously hinted he would prefer to stay in the Premier League than move overseas.

But, despite this, the Bundesliga side are confident they can persuade the midfielder to sign on the dotted line.
