Germany cruised past Brazil in the World Cup semi-final by thumping the host nation 7-1 at Belo Horizonte.

Brazil began the game without Thiago Silva [suspended], Neymar [injured] and Dani Alves [dropped] and their experience showed as the likes of David Luiz and Dante struggled to contain the Germany forward line.

The deadlock was broken after just 11 minutes when the prolific Thomas Muller silenced the Belo Horizonte crowd with a superb volley which flew past Julio Cesar into the top corner.

At that point, the home nation looked capable of coming back into the game but a 15 minute goal spout saw the Germans all-but seal their passage to the next round of the World Cup.

Miroslav Klose scored his 16th World Cup goal by slotting past Cesar, who failed to parry away the Lazio striker’s initial effort on goal.

Toni Kroos would then make it 3-0 as volleyed from the edge of the box, before he would score just minutes later to make it 4-0, this time being supplied by Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira.

The crowd was shocked and even more so when Mesut Ozil found himself free inside the box, before setting up the lively Khedira, who made it 5-0.

The second half would be a little less goal happy but Germany would add a sixth through substitute Andre Schurrle, who was played in by Khedira before tapping past Cesar.

Schurrle would then add a second for himself and a seventh for the European side as Brazil looked even more subdued, beating Luiz first before striking past Cesar.

The game would then take an even more strange turn as the home fans started cheering every successful pass that Germany made, cemented even more that their performance was one of the greatest in World Cup history.

Oscar would add a late consolation goal for the Brazilians but there was simply no chance of a comeback.

Germany will now face either Netherlands or Argentina in the final.
