Liverpool eye Argentine striker to replace Suarez

HIguain

Football Express News understands that Liverpool are in initial talks with Napoli over the possible summer signing of Gonzalo Higuain.

Luis Suarez’s move to Barcelona is set to be announced before the end of the week and it is understood that Liverpool have made initial plans to bring in a suitable replacement, starting talks with Italian side Napoli over a possible deal for Gonzalo Higuain.

The Argentine striker joined Napoli last summer from Real Madrid after turning down a move to Arsenal but it is understood that he has told his international team-mates during the World Cup in Brazil that his ambition is to play in the Premier League.

Liverpool, who have been busy in the transfer window this week, having agreed a fee for Benfica’s Lazar Markovic, want Higuain to replace Suarez and link up with England international Daniel Sturridge.

Reports in Italian press claim that Pepe Reina and Lucas Leiva could be part of any such deal, with former Reds boss Rafael Benitez keen on the pair.

Higuain scored in Argentina’s 1-0 quarter-final win over Belgium last week and will face Netherlands in the semi-final on Wednesday.
