QPR urged to sign Ferdinand and Spurs skipper

Former Queens Park Rangers attacker Rodney Marsh wants his old club to sign ex-Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand and Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson.

Marsh, who played for the Loftus Road outfit between 1966 and 1972, believes the experienced duo would shore up the heart of the defence ahead of the 2014-15 campaign.

He said on Twitter: “Think Michael Dawson would be brilliant with Rio at #QPR.”

Boss Harry Redknapp is likely to significantly strengthen his squad after leading them to promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking following a dramatic 1-0 win over Derby County in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

Former United skipper Ferdinand is available on a free transfer after leaving Old Trafford last month, bringing down the curtain on 12 trophy-laden years with the Red Devils.

The 35-year-old is still assessing his options and is currently in Brazil, working as a pundit at the World Cup.

England international Dawson is no longer an automatic starter for Spurs and could face a fight for his future in north London.

The 30-year-old has only two years remaining on his current contract, with no sign of an imminent extension to the deal.

He came close to joining QPR two summers ago, but opted to remain at White Hart Lane in order to fight for his place in the side.
