France midfielder prefers La Liga switch

Valbuena

Olympique Marseille midfielder Mathieu Valbuena is set to snub Serie A duo AC Milan and Fiorentina in favour of a move to Spain.

The France international’s agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes, told ABC his client is aware of interest from the Italian sides but is edging towards a switch to either Sevilla or Valencia in La Liga.

Despite having three years left on his contract at the Stade Velodrome the playmaker has seemingly made up his mind to pursue a new challenge overseas in the coming weeks and a decision on the preferred destination is likely to be made by Friday.

The 29-year-old caught the eye in flashes for his national side during the World Cup but, like many of his colleagues, fell short in the quarter-final loss to Germany on Friday which brought an end to their campaign.

Bernes expects him to move during the summer transfer window and said: “In the next few days I will speak with Sevilla.

“He is very happy about the interest of the club. This is a great club, which won the Europa League last year and will continue to grow.

“Valencia? They called us. This week we will make a decision. There are other possibilities but he prefers to go to Spain.”
