Aston Villa have completed the signing for former England midfielder Joe Cole on a two-year deal.
The 32-year-old became available on a free transfer after being released by fellow Premier League side West Ham United at the end of last season and had received offers from a number of English and European clubs.
But, Villa, who have been busy in the transfer market this week, signing Phillipe Senderos, jumped the gun and beat potential suitors to the signature of the former Liverpool man.
Cole, began his career with West Ham United but had spells with Chelsea, Liverpool and French side Lille, before making a return to London in 2013.
He made 20 Premier League appearances last season for the Hammers.
