The future of Chelsea on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku is still shrouded in mystery with the Belgian having denied any recent discussions with the club, according to a source close to the player.

Chelsea forward Lukaku, who has spent last season on loan to Everton, has claimed not to have spoken with the Blues about his future since last September – despite recent reports hinting of a permanent move to Goodison Park and others suggesting a switch to Atletico Madrid is also on the cards.

The source states the 21-year-old had been questioned as to whether Chelsea have approached to determine his whereabouts for next season and in response, he said:  “No, not yet. It depends what is the best for me, where the most ambition is and where is the best place for me to develop.

“I’m 21 but I think I’m experienced enough now. I’ve played a lot of games and scored a lot of goals and now I want to win titles and become one of the best.

“I have a few ideas but we’ll see. I have to have discussions first and have to think about it. I want to go home (to see my family) and then I will decide. It will be soon.”

Lukaku impressed Everton boss Roberto Martinez in the Toffees’ Premier League campaign last season, scoring 16 goals in 31 appearances and assisting them to their 5th place finish.

Spanish coach Martinez is said to be pushing for Everton to make a deal with Chelsea to bring the young striker to Goodison on a permanent basis.
